Guess what! Summer’s here!
Oh no. Summer’s here? Already?
Conflicting opinions on the same thing? Welcome.
I love summer, I should get that straight. I’m just another random person on the internet who loves summer, (also hates winter, like, bleh). The warm sunshine days of May and June, that just-satisfying heat of August, neither-too-cold-nor-too-hot of September and October. I love it all.
But summer comes with a drawback. You are short on the productive things to do when bored.
Summer days are looong. Actually, really long, and you want to put them to good use and okay, not get bored, but still you can’t seem to find anything to do. Even though you’ve got tons of work, homework, assignments, studying and all that boring old things to do. You’ve got so much to do but you never find enough motivation.
If you’re struggling with motivation, here’s a resource for you, Reasons You’re Feeling Unmotivated and How to Make a Breakthrough.
But if you’re always full of inspiration and now actually want to get something done, spend your summer productively, find some nerdy things to do then here I am, with 44 fun things to do in the summer that will both keep you entertained and hooked, and will also be useful to you.
Now heads up, I’m a nerd.
That means I spend my summer days reading and writing and binge-watching Netflix. I also exercise and burn tops 200 kcal per day (which I’m proud of, by the way, for a beginner, at least). My hobbies are, quite frankly, reading, writing, binge-watching Netflix and…burning calories every day. I also frequently check my heart rate and stress levels (cuz it’s fun…?)
Long story short, many things on this list will be nerdy. But hey, that’ll put you ahead of other people who are spending thir summer days only binge-watching Netflix and…burning calories. That’ll definitely put you ahead of your classmates.
Anyways, be prepared.
Table of Contents
Productive Things to Do When Bored on Summer Days
1. Write research papers and essays. Talk about nerdy. But it’s a nice way to spend time. Gives that aesthetic vibe, messy handwriting, helps you constantly researching, reading, learning, educating yourself, becoming better and better version of yourself.
What more? Tell me how many of your classmates will spend the summer writing research papers that are not part of the assignments? Here’s a list of topics for you to write research papers and essays on.
2. Write a poem.
3. Start a blooooog. I started my blog when I was sixteen. But let’s talk about you. When are you going to start your own blog? It doesn’t cost at all to set it up. Use a platform like Blogger or WordPress, that’s where I started. If you have some valuable advice, or if you just want to share your opinions, start a blog. A personal blog works too.
Tell me how many of your classmates run a blog?
And summer is the perfect time for it because you’ve got loads of free time on your hands.
4. Learn the basics of game theory. Have you ever tried learning game theory? It surpasses any of the subjects you study in school. And it’s free on YouTube.
It’s so interesting, so knowledgeable, so logical. You’ll feel like you’re actually learning something that will sharpen your mind.
5. Once you’ve learned game theory, solve puzzles. Fun. Yeah.
6. Learn coding.
7. Watch documentaries. Any documentary.
8. Watch TED talks on YouTube and get educated.
9. Finish reading a book in a day. Tell me which one it was.
10. Take an online course.
11. Learn a new language on Duolingo. I’ve got a 141 day streak running right now in Japanese. It’s fun, trust me, and it just adds to your value skills.
Fun Things to Do In the Summer
12. Compose a song. There’s this app Bandlab that lets you compose your own songs, along with music and all. It’s amazing. You can try it.
13. Call a friend to ask them what they are doing for the summer. I bet they’re not starting a blog or composing a song or watching documentaries. I bet they’re binging TV and…burning calories, yeah.
14. Start a scrap journal.
15. Buy a canvas and some paints and paint something.
16. Watch sports matches.
17. Or better yet, play a sport. (Not so nerdy, I know, but it doesn’t hurt to try).
18. Shoot a flim.
19. Workout. Okay, finally, you gotta burn some calories, I guess?
20. Knit a sweater. Or do embroidery. If you like that kind of stuff (I personally don’t, but I guess people do).
21. Subscribe to this blog so that you get regular updates. Now I can surely say that none of your classmates have done that yet. (Sorry, we aren’t that famous yet).
22. Get a pet. Why not? After mom’s permission of course. That’s crucial.
23. Build a treasure hunt, along with the map and the prize. You can also build a digital treasure hunt.
24. Learn martial arts. (Good news, you’ll burn calories.)
25. Learn nail art and show it off on Pinterest.
Nerdy Things to Do on Summer Days
26. Record a podcast.
27. Make a comic series.
28. Plot full-fledged murder myserties. It’s fun, (only if you, you know, take it for fun…)
29. Play chess. Play with the computer if everyone else is afraid of your chess Grandmaster skills. (Play at the lowest level at the computer to make sure that you win.)
30. Write a non-fiction book and…yeah, you guessed it right, tell your friends about it.
31. Learn calligraphy. You’ll get nice handwriting.
32. Have a no-technology day where you literally do anything but think about your phone or what your friends or colleagues are up to. Just forget that someone even invented technology in the first place. Pretend you’re in the stone age, as long as you remember not to wear leaves on your body and eat raw fish for dinner.
33. Go to an art gallery and stare at a painting for 1 hour. No more, no less. 1 hour. (Like the guy in the photo).

35. Start a micro blog on Tumblr or Instagram.
36. Have fun with AI.

39. Watch anime. This is actually something I’m going to give a shot this summer. Even though I’ve never done it before, not even thought about it, but I think I should give it a try.
40. Shoot animations using Snapchat filters.
41. Do some brainstorming. Any idea you like.
42. Make a mood or a vision board. On Pinterest? In your gallery, or on your wall.
