Beautiful Poems On Motherhood to Capture Their Unconditional Love
Hey, welcome to our poetry blog section, which is completely apart from our Life with a Why page. Here, we only discuss poetry and prose for the people who have a keen eye of appreciating the little beauties in life.
Today’s theme is to celebrate the unconditional, undying love and purity of motherhood through these poems on motherhood.

Poems about Mothers
I didn't see you when I came to open my eyes
But I loved you before I loved me
And you'd feed me, teach me, hold me high
'Cuz your knees didn't ache, you were only thirty-three.
I always saw you as a string sailor
Fearless in face of the monsters at night
People insisted that I had to toughen up
But you'd always put up a brave fight.
And then I grew a little older, a lot taller
You'd call me out, and I'd use worse words to attack
I'm sorry, mum, I made a mistake.
Now I wish I could take them back.
Because I can't see you hurting.
You can yell at me till the day I die.
But you've always been a strong woman to me.
I can take anything, I just can't see you cry.
Quotes and Poems About Kids Growing Up
Kids grow up, very fast, too fast, it seems. One moment they’re young and cheery, running around the house in all their aura, so full of life, and then all of a sudden it feels like a dream as it passes: they grow up, go to school for the last time, leave for college.
Its magic, really. It’s also very bittersweet, as Ashlee Edens said, “Those little feet won’t be little forever.”

Remember when he was five
and got into a fight?
And you kissed him and told him that
You'd never let him out of your sight.
Remember when he turned ten
and was excited now to be "the big guy"?
He pretended to be grown up for a whole day
and you'd just wonder where the years went by.
Remember when he turned fifteen, God?
It was hard to get all that went through his head
You got that he was a teenager now,
But you'd still yell at him to make his bed.
Remember when you smiled like crazy
when he introduced a girl to you
And you'd tease him to no end,
give him all the advice you knew.
First day of college. Graduation.
He looked so handsome up there
Job. Day of the wedding.
He took the vow and you mumbled a prayer.
Well, now he's turning thirty-five,
and he's missing you like hell.
Just come back for a while, Ma
I swear I won't yell.
“No one tells you that the hardest part of motherhood is when your kids grow up.”

“Rock Me to Sleep,” by Elizabeth Akers Allen
Backward, turn backward, O time, in your flight;
Make me a child again, just for tonight!
Mother, come back from that echoless shore;
Take me again in your heart as of yore —
Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care,
Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair,
Over my slumbers your loving watch keep —
Rock me to sleep, mother — rock me to sleep!
Backward, turn backward, O tide of the years!
I am so weary of toil and of tears —
Toil without recompense, tears all in vain —
Take them and give me my childhood again!
I have grown weary of dust and decay —
Weary of flinging my soul-wealth away —
Weary of sowing for others to reap —
Rock me to sleep, mother — rock me to sleep!
Tired of the hollow, the base, the untrue,
Mother, O mother, my heart calls for you!
Many a summer the grass has grown green,
Blossomed and faded — our faces between —
Yet with strong yearning and passionate pain,
Long I tonight for your presence again;
Come from the silence, mother — rock me to sleep!
Come, let your brown hair, just lighted with gold,
Fall on your shoulders again as of old —
Let it drop over my forehead tonight,
Shading my faint eyes away from the light!
For, with its sunny-edged shadows once more,
Haply will throng all the visions of yore;
Lovingly, softly, its bright billows sweep —
Rock me to sleep, mother — rock me to sleep!
Mother, dear mother! the years have been long
Since I last listened to your lullaby song;
Sing, then, and unto my soul it shall seem
Womanhood’s years have been only a dream;
With your light lashes just sweeping my face,
Never hereafter to wake or to weep —
Rock me sleep, mother — rock me to sleep!
